mgm Cooperates With Computer Science Department of University Bamberg

As part of a long-term partnership, mgm is starting a cooperation with the Faculty of Information Systems and Applied Computer Science (WIAI) at the University of Bamberg. The focus is on the recruitment of young talent and the exchange of expertise on current software engineering topics.

Since October 1st, 2023 mgm cooperates with the Faculty of Information Systems and Applied Computer Science (WIAI) of the University of Bamberg and thus expands its commitment in the university sector. In addition to possible internships abroad or assistance with final theses, the main aim of the cooperation is to give students the opportunity to gain practical experience and thus become more familiar with the breadth of the field of software engineering.

We want to teach students about the rich variety that professional software development careers have in store

“We want to teach students about the rich variety that professional software development careers have in store. In addition to well-known disciplines such as development, architecture and project management, there are many large and important topics – for example DevOps, QA, UI/UX and security”, says Stephan Minz, Branch Manager mgm Bamberg. “In addition, we look forward to engaging in technical discussions in areas such as model-based software development and artificial intelligence.”

Computer Science Department at the University of Bamberg Is on Course for Growth

The started cooperation comes at a time when the computer science department at the University of Bamberg is in a strong growth phase. The Hightech Initiative Bavaria alone has made nineteen additional professorships possible in WIAI – seven of which have been created in the field of artificial intelligence.

Many of the existing and new chairs deal with topics that are also highly relevant to mgm in customer projects and internal research and development time and again. Chairs such as AI engineering in companies, human-computer interaction or privacy and security in information systems offer points of contact and potential for mutual progress.

Cooperation Expands Existing Points of Contact

mgm has had excellent experiences with graduates and students of the University of Bamberg. In tandem with the university, mgm has already supervised academic theses and employed working students. Several graduates have found their way to mgm and strengthen the company in software projects around e-commerce and in the public sector. The desire for closer cooperation between mgm and the WIAI was therefore the logical consequence.

The cooperation with the University of Bamberg is part of mgm’s existing joint activities with renowned universities. For example, a strategic research cooperation with the Chair of Software Engineering at RWTH Aachen University has been running since the beginning of 2020.
