mgm signs the open letter from the European open source industry for digital sovereignty

Last Updated on 18. November 2025

Europe is at a crucial point in its digital development. The issue of digital sovereignty affects not only states and institutions, but also businesses and citizens alike. Open technologies and open source play a central role in this, as they create transparency, independence and innovative strength.

As a member of the Open Source Business Alliance (OSBA), mgm technology partners supports the joint initiative of the European open source industry for digital sovereignty. At the Summit on European Digital Sovereignty on 18 November 2025 in Berlin, we co-signed the Declaration of Digital Independence.

What digital sovereignty means for mgm

Janos Standt, Head of Public Sector at mgm, said: “For us, digital sovereignty means that Europe must regain control over its digital technologies, from development and operation to long-term maintenance. Only in this way can we ensure independence, security and innovative strength in the long term. Open source software has been an integral part of our work for years – in the development of the Enterprise AI Low Code Platform A12 as well as in our projects. In the future, we will continue on this path and contribute to the open source community.”

Peter Ganten, CEO of the Open Source Business Alliance (OSBA), adds: “Digital sovereignty, i.e. control, design and interchangeability in digital systems, cannot be achieved without open source software. The European open source industry and the entire European open source ecosystem are ready to deliver, so that Europe can not only regain control and independence, but also become the centre of digital innovation. The European Summit on Digital Sovereignty is a great opportunity to seize this chance, for example by calling on Europe’s administrations and businesses to use open source software and the opportunities it offers in a joint final declaration.”

By signing the declaration, we are making a clear commitment to an open, resilient and digitally sovereign Europe.
