The digitalisation of public administration is rapidly gaining momentum in Schleswig-Holstein. With the OZG Cloud, the federal state has not only implemented an efficient tool for processing online applications without media discontinuity, but has also taken on a pioneering role in the nationwide digitalisation landscape.

More than half of all local authorities in the country are already utilising the benefits of the OZG cloud for the standardised and digital processing of applications. There are no technical limits and the use cases range from business registrations and authorisation procedures to lost property office services and subsidy applications. In total, over 820 online services are connected to the OZG Cloud and more are being added all the time.
Innovative features simplify processes
The latest innovations within the OZG Cloud are evidence of a clear focus on efficiency and user-friendliness. Particularly noteworthy is the optimisation of notification creation, which enables clerks to create and send notifications much faster. In some cases, the processing time has been reduced from 4 hours to just 8 minutes. This drastic time saving is achieved through the complete digitalisation and automation of processes and represents a significant advance in administrative efficiency.
In addition to these improvements, the OZG cloud now supports the connection of multiple messaging channels, enabling improved communication between administrative staff and with citizens. The ability to process and forward applications across different cloud instances helps to strengthen collaboration between municipalities and further accelerate administrative processes.
In addition, the four most common administrative document management systems will be connected to the OZG cloud to make the handling of applications and documents even more convenient and efficient.
More power for the development of technical expertise
Behind the scenes, our OZG Cloud development team has been expanded. The configuration tool for customising the OZG Cloud to the specific needs of each municipality has been completed and these developers are now strengthening the General Specialist Application (AlFa) team. This allows us to react even faster to technical requirements and further develop the actual specialised applications within the OZG Cloud.
Piloting and expansion beyond national borders
The successful implementation in Schleswig-Holstein has inspired other federal states to follow similar paths. Bavaria, for example, is currently piloting the OZG Cloud in 9 municipalities and plans to roll it out in over 1,400 municipalities. This emphasises the enormous potential and scalability of the OZG Cloud. Talks are being held with other federal states.
Together with Dataport, the information and communication service provider for public administration in the four federal states of Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Bremen and Saxony-Anhalt, we are considering transforming the OZG Cloud into an open source project. This step would not only increase the transparency and adaptability of the OZG-Cloud, but also promote broader collaboration and innovation within the German administrative landscape.
